Bourbon Barrel Aged Scotch Ale and Triple Pearl SMaSH Pale Ale

What's New?

Well, we have a phantasmagorically awesome Bourbon Barrel Aged Scotch Ale that just came out last week. We put our awesome Scotch Ale with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, and dark fruits in to some Willie's Distillery Bourbon and Honey Moonshine barrels, aged them for 2 months, then blended all the barrels together to get one awesome sauce! Gi-normous bourbon aromas, with vanilla and toffee tones waft up when you smell the beer. Then big vanilla, oaky-tannins, leather, smoke, bourbon meld when you take a drink. This beer is pretty damn close to perfection folks, get some before it is gone. Served in a snifter.

Coming out Tuesday is Rusty Pearl, a Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) Pale Ale made with Triple Pearl hops and comes in at 5.4% and 43 IBU's. Triple Pearl hops are a new USDA publicly grown hop not a proprietary variety like Simcoe, Citra, El Dorado, Mosaic, etc. In 2014 the USDA let out 4 new hop varieties. Cashmere was our first experiment from these hops, and now Triple Pearl.

Rusty Pearl is a great sessionable pale ale. Stone fruits, ripe fruits, and white tea in the aromas, stone fruits, honey dew, and fruit-tea-like flavors are subdued and complimentary to the light malt backbone. It finishes up dry and crisp, with a slight bitterness on the finish. It is a great single hop beer, and very unique!
If you are bored with the same old "rip your face off" IPAs and APAs, then swing on in and give this very tasty and unique little gem a try.

Boubon Barrel Aged Scotch, Bronze medal Scotch and Dark Rapids Black IPA

Photo of our 2015 BCBA medal for our Bier d' Garde
So, we participated in "Best of Craft Beer Awards" BCBA again this year, and guess what? WE WON A BRONZE MEDAL! For our Katabatic Scotch Ale. We won the medal in the Scottish Ale category. This was one of the four big national competitions. So I guess you could say we're proud!

We also recently drained the Willie's Distillery bourbon barrel that had our award winning Scotch ale in it. Then we blended that with a little fresh beer and what you have is a totally different complex taste bud explosion. It's rich in vanilla and toffee notes, with a heady bourbon aroma, but it's not like drinking a "Boiler maker". It's like sipping a fine wine. Except it's freakin' beer! Come try some, you will be glad I told you so.

It's okay to get caught in these Dark Rapids.
Did we also tell you that we're tapping the Dark Rapids Black IPA today? 7.1 % ABV and 65 IBU's using Galaxy, Cascade, Chinook, and Columbus hops. A black in color West-Coast style IPA, or India Black Ale.
Aroma- Citrusy, resinous, piney-character with a hint of toast.
Flavor- Big piney notes, followed by slightly citrusy, and melon hop character
Finish- Dry and crisp with a clean finish without the lingering bitterness

Beetlekill Brown is back on tap!

Beetle Kill Brown has just been transferred into the serving tanks and is rockin' on the taps right now!  This malty dark brown ale sports just a enough hops to stand up to the big malty backbone. It's balanced, roasty, and finishes with a nice crisp finish.

We are also sporting Honey Blonde, Amberdextrous Amber, and Mosaic Pale Ale. This weeks Nitro keg is Beetle Kill Brown.

Don't forget. We have really dope-ass looking old-school beanies that say Katabatic Brewing on them. They look like the ones you and your siblings had of your favorite football team back in 1983. Check 'em out!
